A New Chapter for Griswold: From Rescue to Forever Home

At Canadian Wings of Rescue, every animal’s journey is a testament to hope, resilience, and the power of passional people coming together. Griswold—affectionately known as Grizzy—is one such story that has warmed our hearts and reminded us why we do what we do.

Grizzy’s adventure began in May 2024, when Golden Rescue reached out to Canadian Wings of Rescue with a transport request. From there, our dedicated operations volunteers worked behind the scenes to match Grizzy’s flight request with one of our volunteer pilots.

Private pilots, like Dr. Robert Campbell, check our flight portal for transport requests that match their availability and commitment to flying for a cause. Once Robert signed up to fly Grizzy to Vancouver, our volunteer transport coordinator stepped in to orchestrate every detail between Robert and Golden Rescue.

Dr. Robert Campbell in action.

Robert, a tenured volunteer with CWoR, is a multi-faceted hero. He combines his flying expertise with his profession as a veterinary dentist & oral surgeon and ensured Grizzy arrived safely in Vancouver.

Once there, it didn’t take long for this cuddly Golden Retriever to find his forever home with Doug, Renate and their family in Mission, B.C. Having lost their two beloved Goldens not long before meeting Grizzy, the family was navigating a profound loss. Grizzy, along with his new siblings Lily, a spirited 18-month-old Border Collie, and Maggie, the family’s affectionate cat, has brought joy and healing back into the family’s lives.

When Grizzy first arrived, he was understandably a little nervous. But with time, patience, and love, he has blossomed into a cherished member of the family. At six years old, Grizzy’s laid-back personality makes him a perfect companion. He’s incredibly patient with his rambunctious little sister, Lily, who is still very much in her puppy phase. And Maggie has also embraced Grizzy wholeheartedly, often walking right up to him for snuggles.

Grizzy’s story is a shining example of the incredible transformations made possible through rescue and adoption. To everyone who played a part in bringing Griswold to his forever family—from our volunteer pilot Robert Campbell to the foster team in Vancouver, and the adoption coordinators and transport volunteers—your efforts have created a ripple effect of love and joy.

✈️ Two flights, one lucky pup! 🐶
Meet Murphy, a sweet Golden Retriever rescued in partnership with @goldenrescuecanada now safely on his way to a new beginning in Peterborough, Ontario! 💛
This two-leg journey started in Quebec, where our amazing volunteer pilot Frédéric Veilleux flew Murphy to Eastern Ontario. From there, volunteer pilot @kai.salvini
took over and flew him to his loving foster family in Ontario.

🎥 Check out this video of Murphy's journey! A huge thank you to Gabriel Alexandre who captured and edited this.

#ThrowbackThursday to one of the most unforgettable journeys we’ve ever flown 💚🐾✈️

In Fall 2024, Winnie was rescued from a garbage can in Jamaica with a broken back. Thanks to a global network of animal lovers, including @montegobayanimalhaven , she made it all the way to Newfoundland — where she’s now living her best life and thriving.

Her journey is a powerful reminder of what resilience and community can achieve. Her story continues to inspire us to believe in the goodness of strangers and the power of collective compassion.

Wildfires can spread fast — and when evacuation orders come, there’s often little time to gather what you need. That’s why having an animal emergency plan is just as important as having one for your family.

🧡 Here’s how to prepare:

✅ Pack a “go bag” with food, water, medications, ID tags, vet records, and a leash or carrier.
✅ Know where you’ll go — map out routes and look for animal-friendly shelters in advance.
✅ Microchip your pets and keep ID tags current.
✅ Practice loading animals into vehicles calmly.
✅ Follow official updates from the Manitoba Wildfire Service — evacuate early if needed.

At Canadian Wings of Rescue, we’re always ready to assist — but it’s the preparedness of pet owners and foster networks that makes rescues smoother and safer.

Please share this post to help protect animals during wildfire season. 🐾
